Africa’s richest man and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has urged Nigerians to buy and consume only locally made products as a way to create jobs and strengthen the nation’s economy.
Dangote made the call during a media tour of the Dangote Refinery led by social commentator and “Buy Naija, Grow Naira” campaigner, Reno Omokri. He emphasized that patronising made-in-Nigeria goods would help reduce unemployment and stimulate industrial growth.
“We must buy only made-in-Nigeria. When you buy anything made in Nigeria, you are helping to create jobs,” Dangote said.
The industrialist noted that nations with strong economies are those that support local industries and depend less on imported goods. He explained that encouraging local production not only drives job creation but also empowers small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) across the country.
Dangote also highlighted the contributions of his refinery to Nigeria’s economy, saying it represents a major step toward self-sufficiency in energy and industrial development.
“The refinery is not just up to date — it is up to tomorrow,” he remarked, describing the project as a symbol of Nigeria’s industrial potential.
The call comes amid rising concerns over Nigeria’s dependence on imports and the persistent challenge of youth unemployment. Dangote’s message reinforces the need for citizens and policymakers to prioritise local consumption as a pathway to sustainable economic growth.
